Inquiry about Detention in the Closed Controlled Access Centre in Samos

30th November 2021

As of November 16th, 2021, asylum seekers residing in the Closed Controlled Access Centre in Samos have been subjected to restrictions of movement and forbidden to leave the reception facility. This rule is implemented for those camp residents who do not have a valid asylum applicant ID card and include newly registered people and people with negative decisions to their asylum claim.

As of 30/11, there has not been a ministerial circular published regarding the decision. Alongside other 11 organizations and groups, Europe Must Act has sent a letter to European and Greek authorities to inquire about the legal basis for detention and ask to immediately lift the rule.
